Katie’s Story

Katie was frustrated with being overlooked for a promotion. As a sergeant in a Midwest precinct, she had posted for lieutenant three times over the course of three years with zero results in moving up the ladder. She shared her frustration with her partner who had seen success with Bossibly and suggested Katie talk to the team to see explore options in an effort to turn her situation around.

THE APPROACH

By comparing her assumed deficiencies against those received the promotion, a gap analysis was created with Bossibly’s guidance. With the documentation in hand, Katie set up meetings with her boss, the lieutenant, to fill in the gaps. With the appropriate permission, she mirrored the strategy with her captain and gained his permission to solicit feedback from the chief. In the meeting with the chief, Katie received insight from him for her to add more value to the organization, ultimately making her eligible for advancement.

THE RESULTS

Katie connected with the public information officer (PIO) who had a wealth of skills that could help the Chief in that area. Over the next few months with the PIO, she learned the necessary tools to make a huge difference in the organization.
